Changes Coming to Wachovia Stable Funds

On July 1, 2009, the Stable Investment Fund of Wachovia (SIF) and Wachovia Diversified Stable Value Fund (DSV) will undergo a change: Galliard Capital Management, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wells Fargo & Co, will assume investment advisory responsibility of both funds.

EBRI Study: Examining Plan Demographics, Participant Saving Behavior and Target-Date Fund Investments

The nonpartisan Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) recently published (May 28, 2009) a study of target-date fund investments, exploring whether plan demographic characteristics would affect individual participant contribution rates and target-date fund investments for participants in relation to plan demographics by considering target replacement income and its success rate.

The SPARK Institute Addresses 401(K) Plan Fees and Expenses in New White Paper

The SPARK Institute, in a white paper released on May 20, 2009, said that a major misconception about the fees for 401(k) and similar retirement plans is that they are expensive relative to the fees paid by investors in individual mutual funds.

Proposed Regulations Allowing Suspension or Reduction of Safe Harbor Nonelective Contributions

The IRS has released proposed regulations allowing employers sponsoring safe harbor 401(k) or 403(b) plans to reduce or suspend the plan's safe harbor nonelective contribution if a substantial business hardship exists and other requirements are met.
