Final Regulations: New Safe Harbor for Timely Deposit of Employee Contributions to Small Plans

On January 14th, 2010, the Department of Labor (DOL) finalized its proposed regulations creating a safe harbor of seven business days under which participant contributions to small (100 or fewer participants) employee benefit plans will be considered to be contributed timely.

The labor-force participation rate is increasing for older Americans (age 55 and older) as older workers are faced with higher health costs and economic losses, according to a study published on February 18, 2010, by the nonpartisan Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI).
